Dystopian ride of these ultra-algos will not keep us handcuffed forever

AS OF TODAY, ALREADY HALF THE POPULATION OF THE PLANT EARTH IS CONNECTED. HENCE TOUCHED BY DIFFERENT PLATFORM  ALGORITHMS FROM GOOGLE MAPS TO WHATSAPPING TO TIKTOK TO FACEBOOK AND ALL THE OTHER TECH GIANTS. ACCORDINGLY, MANY OF THIER DECISIONS ARE INFLUENCED BY WHAT THEY SEE AND INTERACT WITH ON ANY OF THESE ALGORITHMS.

Humans have used algorithms for thousands of years in the form of mathematics, computations and science. Algorithms are everywhere and are constantly evolving and constantly shaping our behaviors and decision-making processes as well as developing our perception and consciousness.

These algos are mostly seeking to increase the screen time people spend on their platforms so they make more money from the ad’s revenue. Ads are supposedly highly democratized to reflect fairly what is best for the global economy only. But little attention is done to any social, political, or heritage damage.

Fiercely these ultra-algorithm compete against each other to win and being supported by a big corporation they fund their AI R&D like no others. In addition to the fact that they are enjoying everybody’s 1st party data at large. And whatever they may get or buy from the alternative data market ecosystem. So literally the battle of the machines has already started.

These ultra-algos are moderated by social networks for new trials on millions of users all over the globe. They do that without being audited or acknowledged. And the results are used to optimize their ROl for the sake of their shareholders.

The fact that no one is rectifying these Al models for the crucial values of our social fabric is a great source of concern to me.  Governments do not care about this issue at all, more than cyber security and privacy purposes.

Algorithmic trading is known in the financial market as ultra-algos too. A defined set of instructions (an algorithm) to place a trade. The trade, in theory at least, can generate profits at a speed and frequency that is impossible for a human trader. In our case we are the stocks. Nevertheless, other parties in the global economic chain have raised their concerns in different forms in media and legislation to fight back by slowing the avalanche. GDPR is one. Others have started to build Al tools to monitor these ultra-algorithm, and can even logically decipher and predict.

These are machines that can push fake news by algorithmically generating millions of pieces of propaganda in a very convincing way.

Humanity is not a guinea pig for every new technology.

Mind you we have not yet stepped foot in the generative Al like Mid Journey and ChatGPT. These apps will be extensively used to generate text-based and image-based content with high value. More than that, these technologies will power Al bots that can understand user intent and human emotion, and therefore create authentic content for them. Our proposal at the moment is to develop independent platforms that serve as middleware between the people and the ultra-algos, as Web 3.0 suggests, but this is something that will require a lot of time and political effort. We need to advocate immediately for the people, so that the ultra-algos abide by different societal values and control the timeline content to increase peace and productivity.

For this to happen, we must campaign for the people to know about the potential harm. We need to build the awareness on the power of the ultra-algos, so they can participate in the decisions that concern them instead of being controlled.

Zuckerberg can change the name of his company, and he can also change the names of his platforms, but he cannot change the truth. He is fully aware of what he has done and is still doing. And he knows that the world has revealed its fangs in many countries. Crises, cases, fines, and taxes imposed on him, but he relies on weak legislation and the lack of understanding of congressmen continues and penetrates. This is how it began and this is what it wants to continue.

I will clarify some important facts in the following points:

• The rates of digital media use in the world have quadrupled over the past decade, and advertisements that have moved from traditional to digital channels have to enter.

• The average number of hours of daily consumption of digital media globally is four hours, and unfortunately the Middle East consumes twice this daily amount. Of course, most of this time, if not all, is entertainment and enjoyment, not production and learning.

• All platforms revenue from running ads, and in order to maximize them, he must increase the inappropriate and false content at times, and the negative impact over and over again.

• These platforms carried out several social experiments to direct publishing on the timeline and measure its effects. The results showed serious facts indicating their complete control of public opinion in most countries of the world, and on all issues. Politics, believes, arts and ethics.

• The Chinese TikTok platform has acquired a large share of the social networking market and is now threatening Mr. Zuckerberg. And here we have to make it clear that America must protect its son and swallow the issues of monopoly and societal damages, even if they are the least in America when compared to third world countries. Because Mr. Zuckerberg’s platforms are among the most important weapons in the world today that America possesses alone. In addition, the data, analyzes and forecasts it provides.

• The dazzling Metaverse future promise he made is not new and is not fulfilled due to the delay in virtual reality and augmented reality technologies. These technologies require powerful processors, large memory, and a 5G network to build this virtual universe in a comfortable and enjoyable way. This promise was preceded by many gaming platforms. We know that after years these technologies will be available to him and others. All major players are preparing for this shift. And we must expect a negative physical and psychological health impact of virtual reality.

We have suffered and are still suffering from the disadvantages of networks and their great impact on the social and economic shape.. Humanity is not a guinea pig for every new technology. Research and laboratory experiments must be conducted and legalized before they are made available in order to avoid a major malaise once again that may take the entire planet to perish.
